Crew Crisis in the Super Yacht industry

Demand for the ultimate status symbol is at an all-time high - the industry has grown at 500% a year over the past decade - but the vessels' captains and owners are struggling to find the crew they need. Despite the obvious perks, there is a global shortage of the deckhands, engineers, silver-service stewards and gourmet chefs needed to run the world's 4,000-strong fleet of super-yachts.
Travel to some of the world's most glamorous destinations with free board and lodging and an attractive tax-free salary of between 2,000 euros (£1,600) and 10,000 euros a month, depending on experience.

PIMEX - PHUKET BOAT SHOW 2007
In December 2007 Australian Yacht Crew boatsed a centralled located presence at the Phuket International Marine Expo (PIMEX). This provided an ideal stage for AYC to launch its operations in Sourthern Asia and establish vital links to already established companies. Australian Yacht Crew is proud to annouce its affiliation with companies as 'Yacht Crews Thailand' and 'Yacht Solutions'. Watch this space and the development of opportunites around Asia.

Australia Day in September
Wednesday 26th September 2007

Think Croc Dundee, Kath n Kim and the Bonnie Doon. The theme was “Australia Day in September – the Castle Party” and over 100 people rocked to Aussie tunes underneath an inflatable crocodile in Gerhard’s café in Monaco where Powerdive International and Australian Yacht Crew sponsored a night to remember. Lamingtons and Aussie-flagged canapés were enjoyed by guests who could also partake in the free beer tab offered by showing their Aussie flag tattoos to the bar staff. Prizes judged by Stephen Crone of Australian Yacht Crew were awarded as follows:
Best Costume               – Simon Hopkin as “Ned Kelly”
Best and Fairest            – Justine McMahon as “Kath Day-Knight”
The Castle Award        – Tomas Stanislavski, Chef and donor of 100 lamingtons on the night received an Aussie Flag Apron for his efforts
Spot prizes of Australian Red wine supplied by ‘Wild Oates’, Aussie T-shirts and Aussie music CD’s were also handed out throughout the evening. Next summer 2008, the team behind the event plans to hold regular volleyball matches at Cap d’Ail beach for yacht crew in the Monaco-Nice region and a bigger and better Australia Day in September on Friday 26th September 2008. Many thanks go to the venue – Gerhards Café , Powerdive International and Australian Yacht Crew.

LANCE CUSHION Appointed as President.
The ISS (International Super yacht Society) has today announced its new president, executive board as well as a new member of its board of directors. With Australian, Lance Cushion ’s appointment as ISS president, the organization continues to realize its mandate of truly representing the international nature of the super yacht industry. Paul Madden, Ann Avery, Ken Hickling and past president, Doug Sharp, complete the executive board.

A foundation director of Super yacht Base Australia, Lance Cushion has worked tirelessly in establishing the peak national body representing the Australian super yacht industry. Since January 2000, Lance has held the position of Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director. His work in government advocacy and marketing has enabled the Australian super yacht industry to develop to a $500 million industry and is well recognized.

Western Australia to create "super yacht manufacturing cluster" By IBI Magazine
The state government of Western Australia (WA) said in a statement that it intends to create a "super yacht manufacturing cluster" south of Fremantle. Industry and Enterprise Minister Francis Logan said the cluster would be a part of a master plan being developed for the entire Australian Marine Complex (AMC) precinct at Henderson.

2007 SUPER YACHT BASE WESTERN AUSTRALIA
In 2007 Western Australia is presenting itself as a truly international Super Yacht Base with several launches of vessels over 50m and an ever increasing number of visiting Super Yachts including M.V. White Rabbit and M.V. Morning Glory in December and January respectively. The premier's recent announcement of a 174 million dollar upgrade to the Australian Marine complex is expected to create over 3000 employment opportunities over the next 10 years and inject over 25billion into the states economy over the next 25 years through naval and maintenance contracts.
